“I’ve been involved in the hospitality industry since the age of 15, but when I started working in hotels three years ago I feel I found something I am truly passionate about and could imagine as a long term career.  I moved to Scotland from Australia, and found a very inviting industry which I really enjoy being a part of, it’s now home. I am currently the Reservations & Groups Sales Coordinator at the Doubletree by Hilton Edinburgh Queensferry Crossing, and I love dealing with the large demand for group reservations in the hotel.

Whilst not having had any formal training in my career, I have had valuable and excellent mentoring from past employers, managers and colleagues, who have pushed me to always try to be the best version of myself, to continue to develop and learn new skills I can use within my role.  So when I learned that there was a HIT Scotland scholarships in Sales, the area I was currently working in, I knew I had to apply!

The 2 day course was excellent, and I have a notebook full of helpful knowledge, tips and tricks to help me in my role now, and in the future.  We learned that a good sales person helps people to buy. We looked at how to communicate with customers to get the information we need to be able to sell to them successfully, and how to present a solution and hopefully find a win-win situation.

I am still building up my confidence when selling but I feel I've now got the tools to make this happen, so I can trust that I am doing the right things to help the business achieve sales.  I know how to prepare for a call or meeting, how to use positive language and how to negotiate.

I feel with this scholarship I've gained relevant skills to implement in my day to day working life, and the same communicating skills and ways to understand someone’s needs can be used in my personal life too.

It was also great to meet so many like minded women who are also passionate about the Scottish hospitality industry.  I've made friends, gained contacts and had an amazing time in such a wonderful learning environment. Thank you HIT!

I’d highly recommend this scholarship to anyone who is in Sales but hasn’t had any formal training in sales techniques as it can only help you be better in your role.”
