Fundraising challenge
Date: 7 to 20 October 2022 Location: Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, Africa
Price: approx £4000
Join us on an 8 day fundraising trek to summit Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro!
In 2011 two-star Michelin Chef Andrew Fairlie prepared the world’s highest Burns Supper at the top of Kilimanjaro to raise funds for HIT Scotland. In his final months he continued to work closely with the charity to establish the Andrew Fairlie Scholarship which will be awarded annually to provide a career changing opportunity to both a male and female chef who are forging ahead with their culinary career in Scotland. Andrew’s inspirational legacy will continue to live on but not just in the food and drink industry. Andrew spent his last weeks at Cornhill Macmillan Centre and both he and his family wanted to raise funds to provide tangible benefits to the nursing staff who give so much to the patients and their families. To this end an intrepid band of explorers, led by Andrew Fairlie’s brother Jim, are going to follow in his footsteps and climb Kilimanjaro in October in support of both charities.
The cost includes flights, the expedition, guides, accommodation, meals, transport and porters, and an acclimatising safari and mini trek. All fundraising money that you raise then goes to the scholarship.
Interested in the challenge? Contact our Chief Executive David Cochrane who will be joining the trek.
