The new National Certificate in Hospitality Operations programme will encourage students to work with local employers to develop the skills and practical experience they need to build careers in the booming sector.

Combining college teaching with hands-on training, students on the National Certificate will be able to work part-time as well as learn to ensure they get the best start.

The beginning of the programme coincides with the news that 250 jobs will be created at Crichton Hall in Dumfries as part of an on-going resurgence in tourism and hospitality in the area.

Dumfries and Galloway College hospitality and cookery staff say that the National Certificate in Hospitality Operations will include topics such as front of house skills, accommodation services, professional cookery, and an extensive range of restaurant service styles into the comprehensive programme.

The introduction of the National Certificate is another example of the college’s commitment to the local area and to ensuring that the skills required to continue the success of hospitality and tourism are available in Dumfries and Galloway.

Curriculum Manager, Kevin Somerville, said:

“The hospitality industry is vital to Dumfries and Galloway and our college is dedicated to being part of its success.“

Our staff bring years of experience and training to everything they do and the National Certificate in Hospitality Operations will allow them to give our students the level of education that will set them up well for their futures.

“We are also very excited to be working closely with our colleagues in the local area to deliver this cutting-edge and essential programme, and we’re sure they will get as much from it as our students will.”
