Inspirational Empowerment Scholarships

These scholarships help you grow personally, or give you inspiration for the workplace.

Before applying, make sure you have read the application guidance document. Please take note of what we ask you below to “tell us” in your application.

Please note - if you apply for a scholarship but don’t meet the criteria for it, you won’t be offered the chance of a different scholarship.

All scholarship content specifics are subject to change.  Any changes will be in keeping with the feel of the original scholarship idea.

Frank Mullen Bespoke Scholarship

 

What:  Bespoke personal development.

Where:  Venues TBC.

How long:  Varies depending on the opportunity.

When:   Dates to suit.

Structure:  This is dependent on what you want to learn!  It may be experiential, shadowing experts, visiting other venues, or classroom based.  Or it may be a financial donation towards a larger experience. This opportunity is generally unique to you, but you may be part of another group.

Who this is suitable for / criteria:  Anyone currently working in or studying towards a career in Scottish hospitality!  At all ages (over 18), all levels, for all roles.

Number of scholarships:  Varies.

What you will learn:  You tell us!  Frank Mullen was a leading innovator within Scottish tourism and this scholarship is open to all suggestions that will help you develop, and inspire and motivate you to be the best you can be.  What do you need to learn or experience to help you be better at your job? What skills or knowledge are you missing, that we haven’t covered in our other scholarships? We are open to all learning requests relevant to your career.

Tell us:  In your application, tell us about your role, your responsibilities, and how long you have been with the company.  Explain exactly what your learning request is, and how you believe this will help you and your company, and benefit the Scottish hospitality industry.  Requests must be relevant to your career, and obviously beneficial.

 

 

Empowering Future Leaders Scholarship

What:  Skills to help you be confident and happy, and deal with a fast paced workplace.

Where:  Venue in Scotland, TBC

How long:  2 day course (if you are not within travelling distance we organise an overnight stay in a local hotel).

When:  Dates TBC.

Structure:  This course will be a mix of classroom learning and practical workshops.  This is a course created especially for our HIT Scotland group, designed and run by experienced Leadership Coach and NLP Practitioner Kate Flory of Kapow Coaching.

Who this is suitable for / criteria:  Suitable for anyone who needs to improve their confidence and ability to deal with situations and people, allowing them to prove their worth and take their career to the next level.

Number of scholarships:  Maximum of 10, for one group.

What you will learn:  This scholarship gives you the tools to ensure you know how to look after your health and wellbeing, while working in a fast paced industry.  Inspiration will be drawn from personal development and positive coaching psychology tools and techniques to help attendees create positive steps to change. You will learn how to interact with others with confidence, to ensure that you can be the best version of yourself at work, meaning you are an asset to the company, happy, and have the emotional skills to help you grow in your career. This will look at self awareness, positive language, confidence building, resilience, body language, influencing and negotiating skills.

Green Tourism Scholarship

What:  Support to make your business ‘green’.

Where:  Venues TBC.

How long:  Usually 2 to 3 days.

When:   Dates to suit.

Structure:  This experiential scholarship lets you spend a couple of days with a Green Tourism member company, learning from their practices and policies, so that you can bring those ideas back to your own workplace.

Who this is suitable for / criteria:  Ideally for a company who haven’t started on their green journey, interested in the benefits of an environmentally friendly and sustainable business, and keen to work towards a Green Tourism award.  You must have some responsibility for environmental policies or practices at your company, with the ability to use the learnings to affect change in your business, or to recommend them to management.

Number of scholarships:  Maximum of 5.

What you will learn:  You will gain ideas and inspiration to get started on your own green journey.  We are delighted to work with Green Tourism on this scholarship, providing our scholars with the right learning experience to help their business.  They will match you up with a current member with similar green issues, and during your visit you get to see what they do, and ask how and why. You will leave inspired and motivated to put a green tourism strategy into place in your business, and reap the benefits from this.

Tell us:  In your application, tell us what your role and business is, and at what stage you are in your green journey.  Explain why you are interested in the environmental side of the business, and in what areas you feel you need help.  Let us know if your company is already a Green Tourism member.


 
 

St Andrews Scholarship

What:  Personal development for those in the St Andrews area.

Where:  Venue TBC.

How long:  Varies depending on the opportunity.

When:   Dates to suit.

Structure:  This is dependent on what you want to learn!  It may be experiential, shadowing experts, visiting other venues, or classroom based.  Or you may take part in one of our other scholarships.

Who this is suitable for / criteria:  Anyone currently working in hospitality or tourism within a 2 mile radius of the St Andrews area.

Number of scholarships:  Maximum of 3.

What you will learn:  In recognition of the great work delivered to the industry by the St Andrews World Class group, we are delighted to offer the St Andrews Scholarship.  This is a bespoke learning and development opportunity for someone working in the industry in the St Andrews area. This scholarship will enable you to take part in an operational or management experience, locally, nationally or internationally depending on your application request.

Tell us:  In your application, tell us about your role, and where you work (to explain why you qualify for this scholarship).  Tell us what learning opportunity you would like, and how that will help you and your company, and the St Andrews area.  If you are interested in one of our other scholarships, but are applying via the St Andrews scholarship, please say so, and talk about the information we have asked for in that scholarship.

 
 

Diageo Learning for Life Scholarship

What:  Personal development for Diageo Learning for Life graduates.

Where:  Venue TBC (one local, one national, one international opportunity).

How long:  Usually 2 to 3 days.

When:   Dates to suit.

Structure:  This is dependent on what you want to learn!  It may be experiential, shadowing experts, visiting other venues, or classroom based learning.  Or you may want to take part in one of our other scholarships.

Who this is suitable for / criteria:  You must have previously taken part in a Diageo Learning for Life course, and you must currently be working in Scottish hospitality.  This is suitable for those enjoying working in Scottish hospitality, keen to upgrade their skills and knowledge to improve their career prospects.

Number of scholarships:  Maximum of 3.

What you will learn:  This will be a tailored and personalised learning and development opportunity which seeks to build upon your already learned skills and qualifications during the Diageo Learning for Life Programme.  You tell us what you want to learn and we will find an appropriate opportunity for you, which is fully funded so comes at no cost to you. It may be that we send you on one of our other HIT Scotland Scholarships.

Tell us:  In your application, tell us about the Learning for Life course you did, where this was, and what year.  Explain what you have done in hospitality since then, what your current job is, and what you enjoy about it.  Tell us about your hopes for your future career, and talk about what you would like to learn to help you. If any of our other scholarships are of interest, let us know what and why.  If you are an enthusiastic candidate who is hungry to learn and keen to develop, apply!
