Inspirational Empowerment Scholarships
These scholarships help you grow personally, or give you inspiration for the workplace.
Before applying, make sure you have read the application guidance document (here). Please take note of what we ask you below to “tell us” in your application.
Please note - if you apply for a scholarship but don’t meet the criteria for it, you won’t be offered the chance of a different scholarship.
You can only apply for one scholarship.
Please make sure you have gained approval from a senior manager for your application.

Frank Mullen Bespoke / Diageo Learning for Life
Frank Mullen Bespoke
What: Bespoke and inspirational personal development.
What you will learn: You tell us! Frank Mullen was a leading innovator within Scottish tourism and this scholarship is open to all suggestions that will help you develop, and inspire and motivate you to be the best you can be. What do you need to see, to learn about or experience to help you be better at your job? What skills or knowledge are you missing that we haven’t covered in our other scholarships? What would be inspirational for you, that would help drive you and your business to the next level. We are open to all learning requests relevant to your career.
Who this is suitable for / criteria: Anyone currently working in or studying towards a career in Scottish hospitality! At all ages (over 18), all levels, for all roles.
Where: Venues TBC.
How long: Varies depending on the opportunity.
When: 2025 dates to suit.
Structure: This is dependent on what you want to learn! It may be experiential, shadowing experts, visiting other venues, or classroom based. Or it may be a financial donation towards a larger experience. This opportunity is generally unique to you, but you may be part of another group.
Number of scholarships: Varies.
Tell us: In your application, tell us about your role, your responsibilities, and how long you have been with the company. Explain exactly what your learning request is, and how you believe this will help you and your company, and benefit the Scottish hospitality industry. Requests must be relevant to your career, and a beneficial learning experience.
Diageo Learning for Life
What: Personal development for Diageo Learning for Life graduates.
What you will learn: This will be a tailored and personalised learning and development opportunity which seeks to build upon your already learned skills and qualifications during the Diageo Learning for Life Programme. You tell us what you want to learn and we will find an appropriate opportunity for you, which is fully funded so it comes at no cost to you. It may be that we send you on one of our other HIT Scotland Scholarships.
Who this is suitable for / criteria: You must have previously taken part in a Diageo Learning for Life course, and you must currently be working in Scottish hospitality. This is suitable for those enjoying working in Scottish hospitality, keen to upgrade their skills and knowledge to improve their career prospects.
Where: Venues TBC
How long: Usually 2 to 3 days.
When: 2025 dates to suit.
Structure: This is dependent on what you want to learn! It may be experiential, shadowing experts, visiting other venues, or classroom based learning. Or you may want to take part in one of our other scholarships.
Number of scholarships: Maximum of 3.
Tell us: In your application, tell us about the Learning for Life course you did, where this was, and what year. Explain what you have done in hospitality since then, what your current job is, and what you enjoy about it. Tell us about your hopes for your future career, and talk about what you would like to learn to help you. If any of our other scholarships are of interest, let us know what and why.
