The Legacy Scholarship

OPENS MONDAY 16TH MARCH 2026

Scotland’s most talented up-and-coming chefs are being offered the chance to learn in one of the country’s most iconic kitchens, as the Scotland Food & Drink and HIT Scotland Legacy Scholarship opens for applications.

Created to celebrate the MICHELIN Guide Ceremony for Great Britain & Ireland taking place in Scotland for the first time, this innovative scholarship was introduced in 2025, and saw inaugural winner Fraser Cameron, Head Chef at The Globe Inn, undertake a unique five-day stage at The Ritz London, led by Executive Chef John Williams MBE. 2026 sees the winner visit The Dorchester in London.

With Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles and The Glenturret Lalique both holding two MICHELIN Stars, and a further 13 restaurants with one MICHELIN Star dotted around the country, Scotland punches above its weight when it comes to world-class dining. The Legacy Scholarship aims to showcase inspirational development opportunities available to chefs in Scotland, while providing a stepping stone for those looking to progress in their career.

Applications are welcomed from any chef in Scotland with at least five years’ experience working full-time in a professional kitchen, with entries closing at 5pm on Friday, 24th April 2026.

As well as looking for ambition, enthusiasm and a desire to progress within the industry, a panel of expert judges will seek clear examples of how applicants have shown commitment to sourcing and promoting quality Scottish food and drink, and how they would become an ambassador for Scotland’s exceptional ingredients on completion of the internship.

After a rigorous judging process, which will see the top three candidates invited for interview, the scholarship winner will be announced in the summer, with the recipient then invited to attend the prestigious Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards on Thursday 24th September in Glasgow, where they will be honoured by the industry.

Scotland Food & Drink is the leadership organisation responsible for the delivery of the 10-year national food and drink strategy ‘Sustaining Scotland. Supplying the World.’.

The shortlist will be interviewed and judged by these industry experts.

Our 2025 Winner Fraser Cameron

Working closely with the team at the Two Michelin-starred Ritz Restaurant, Fraser had the unique opportunity to work across every section in the kitchen, learning a variety of different techniques and recipes, which he described as an invaluable experience.

Reflecting on his time at The Ritz London he said: “I see winning the first Legacy Scholarship Award as a long-term project, as following my five days at The Ritz London, I have already implemented so many methods, processes and techniques in my kitchen, and there’s lots more I still want to apply and work towards. It’s the gift that keeps on giving because I now have new targets and goals I have set myself, and the business, to achieve.

“The Legacy Scholarship truly is a once in a lifetime, money can't buy experience to learn in one of the best kitchens in the world. If you are serious about learning and growing, and you are prepared to work hard and earn it, grab this opportunity with both hands.”
