Leadership, Performance, Engagement

Welcome to the Tourism and Hospitality Talent Development Programme - Phase 2

CLOSED

Closes Midnight Sunday 1st May 2022

We are delighted to be able to offer four different standalone one day modules for those working in Scottish hospitality or tourism, to improve Leadership, Performance and Engagement.

This programme is funded by the Scottish Government’s National Transition Training Fund, and is being administered by HIT Scotland. There are specific rules around the eligibility and funding for this, so you are required to provide certain information to take part.

There will be 380 places available for these workshops, with 20 groups of 19 people able to take part in one of the sessions. The number of groups for each course will depend on demand. An individual can only apply for and take part in one module.

Please read ALL the information below before applying to ensure you are eligible, you provide the correct information, and to ensure that you understand what is required of you before taking part.

The Modules

Extraordinary Leadership - Building Trust & Developing Resilience

What?

This is a one day interactive online course. Pre-work is required.

How do you build trust and develop resilience with those around you? By driving a culture of openness and resilience.

Trust and resilience are not traits that people either have or don't have. They involve behaviours, thoughts and actions that must be learned and developed. So how do you discover ways to build trust and develop resilience with those you work with, thereby fostering greater productivity and higher employee engagement and retention in the process?

This interactive worksession is for anyone who wants to develop a culture of improved openness, inclusivity and emotional awareness in their workplace. Starting with an Everything DiSC Profile we will explore your preferences and tendencies and how your behaviour may impact those around you. This worksession is ideal for anyone seeking a set of tools to support themselves and others during periods of change and uncertainty.

The Everything DiSC Profile is a universal DiSC assessment which can be used by anyone, at any level and with any role in your organisation. The profile report will give you all you need to know about your own profile and how to work effectively with others. It takes about 15 minutes to complete the assessment and your Profile will be ready for downloading immediately.

This module is very interactive, using breakouts, whiteboards, chat – but most importantly, every learner will be required to complete an Everything DiSC Profile.

This course is approved by the Institute of Leadership & Management, you will receive a certificate of completion, and can use your attendance towards CPD points.

Who is this for?

This for people at Management or Leadership level – you MUST have at least 2 direct reports, and have been in a leadership role for a minimum of 18 months. You CANNOT take part if you did the Tourism and Hospitality Talent Development Programme (THTDP) in 2022, or one of our THTDP modules earlier this year. You CAN take part if you did the THTDP in 2021, the content is completely different, those who did Management level will have had a brief introduction to DiSC but not completed a full profile.

Extraordinary Leadership - Conflict Resolution

What?

This is a one day interactive online course. Pre-work is required.

How do you deal with internal conflicts in the workplace? By addressing conflict and enabling everyone to positively engage with each other.

Every day, leaders are making decisions and facing problems they’ve never encountered before. The demands placed on today’s leaders are intense. They are constantly asked to get more out of their teams, to do more with less and yet continue to lead a team and achieve extraordinary results. Disagreements between individuals are an inevitable part of everyday leadership, but the impact can be minimised. As a leader, you set the tone - the culture - of your team and knowing how to handle these disagreements effectively is a vital skill.

This interactive worksession is for anyone who wants to develop a culture of capability in their workplace. We begin by exploring your Everything DiSC Workplace Profile.

Extraordinary Performance - Getting Things Done

What?

This is a one day interactive online course. Pre-work is required.

How do you stop chasing your own tail and focus on getting the right things done? By improving your focus and learning how to plan and prioritise your work.

Do you know what tasks and activities to focus on at any given time? Today, we have more demands on us than ever before and this has led to tighter deadlines, increased workload and competing priorities. Performance and productivity are not just about time management; rather they are a collective set of skills that will enable you to eliminate the non-essential, busy-work, that prevents you from achieving your highest priorities and goals.

This worksession will help you to identify your most important goals and focus your precious time on them. We will explore a range of techniques to effectively protect and manage your time for maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Through practical exercises and time management tools you will leave the session able to plan and prioritise effectively. In addition, we will use feedback and a continuous improvement cycle to help you improve performance, starting with your Everything DiSC Workplace Profile.

The Everything DiSC Profile is a universal DiSC assessment which can be used by anyone, at any level and with any role in your organisation. The profile report will give you all you need to know about your own profile and how to work effectively with others. Extraordinary Engagement - Developing a Coaching Culture

What?

This is a one day interactive online course. Pre-work is required.

How do you unleash innovation, creativity and commitment in those around you? By making the shift from telling to coaching.

Rapid, constant change is now the norm for most of us. What worked - and succeeded - in the past is no longer a guide to what will succeed in the future. Today's leaders and managers don't have all the answers and so to cope with this new reality, we must find different ways of support and guiding - rather than instructing - so that those around us learn how to think for themselves, how to adapt to constantly changing environments. The future role is about becoming a coach.

It’s one thing to aspire to becoming a leader or manager as a coach, but it’s another to make it happen as an everyday practice. This interactive worksession is for anyone who wants to develop a culture of capability in their workplace. We begin by exploring your Everything DiSC Workplace Profile.

This course is aimed at leaders with direct reports. This is higher level content. You CANNOT take part if you did the Tourism and Hospitality Talent Development Programme (THTDP) in 2022, or if you have done one of the THTDP modules earlier this year. You CAN take part if you did the THTDP in 2021, those who did Management level will have had a brief introduction to DiSC but not completed a full profile.

We must have business approval for an employee to take part - so you need to have a confirmed contact at your business approving your application, and we need their details in the application.

Candidates must want to take part, and businesses must be willing to allow them the time to do so. Please do not apply for anyone who hasn’t agreed to do this module, and hasn’t confirmed their availability on the given dates.

An individual can only apply for and take part in ONE of these modules. Please do not apply for more than one of the modules.

Please complete our online application form for each employee .  There is some specific information that we need about the business, and each individual. The information you need is:

  • Information about your business - business name, postcode, local authority where this is (drop down menu), what your business does (drop down menu), contact details for the manager who is dealing with the business’s applications (title, name, job title, email, telephone), and the business’s current workforce number (state total numbers on full time and part time together - this allows us to check the criteria of only up to 10% of your workforce being allowed to apply).

  • Information about the candidate - which module they are applying for (Leadership - trust and resilience / Leadership - conflict / Performance / Engagement), contact details (personal and work email, mobile number), date of birth, job title, gender identity (drop down menu), any barriers to this person being able to participate, and which of the dates the individual CAN do - you must ask the individual about this as we will use this information to place them on a module. Businesses and applicants will be informed of successful applications by Monday 9th May 2022 at the latest.

If there are too many applicants for any of the modules, then candidates will be chosen to allow a good geographical spread of businesses around Scotland, a good mix of people from different qualifying sectors, and a number of different businesses.  If one business has applied for a number of employees to take part, if we cannot offer them all a place, we will pick at random.

The number of groups for each course will depend on the number of applications received.

Please note - if you are successful you will be offered a place on one of the dates you have confirmed are suitable. This cannot be changed, so if you are unable to do that date you will miss out and your place will be offered to someone else.

Information required before you are accepted

Successful candidates will be emailed with 2 forms which they must complete before being accepted for the module (one PDF and one online). They MUST complete this asap, and return by Friday 13th May 2022 or they will not be able to take part. As a public funded programme, there are very specific requirements for participants and their businesses, and certain information that we must have to enrol you.

We will ask you and your business to complete and “sign” a PDF training agreement - please view this form here so you can see what you will be required to provide, and agree to - both the business and the participant have a page to “sign”. Do not send this to us now, we will send you a copy with guidance notes if you are accepted for one of the modules.

We will also ask you to complete some information for equalities and diversity monitoring, through an online form.
